Cash kills more small businesses than anything else. Why?
Entrepreneurs are unable to get the answers they need, in the time that they need them.
- What will your cash position be next week?
- What about in the next 30, 60, or even 90 days?
- How much runway do we have and what has to change today to avoid running out of money?
- How exposed are we to a few large receivables, late payments, or customer concentration?
- We’re growing in sales, so why do we still need capital just to cover operations?
These are not questions we can just wait around for answers to…
Most SMBs live day to day. There’s no real-time visibility. Problems surface late. Money is managed reactively.
There’s a dangerous gap between accounting and actual cash awareness. The truth is:
50% of small businesses operate with fewer than 15 cash buffer days and
64% still manage finances in spreadsheets (assuming they manage them at all.)
The tools we’ve been given are no longer equipped to navigate the financial reality we live in today.
That’s why I built CashGPS.
From the Trenches A Solution Came to Light
CashGPS wasn't dreamt up in a boardroom or by a group of accounting geniuses.
It was built by an entrepreneur in the trenches.
My name is Brad Thomas, and I've been an entrepreneur for most of my adult life.
CashGPS was born out of more than a decade of building and breaking financial spreadsheets in startup ventures.
They were my lifeline, because nothing else let me see how money was moving in and out of the business the way I needed to.
Not how an accountant sees it, but how an operator runs it.
So what’s the problem?
Those spreadsheets were always out of date, easy to break, and painful to tweak.
They were brilliant but brutal.
I kept thinking: there has to be a better way.
But after years of searching, I realized… there wasn’t.
In 2018, my dad, who ran his own business for over 30 years and the reason I became an entrepreneur, lost track of his company’s cash.
He felt overwhelmed, stuck, and couldn’t see a way out. It nearly cost him his life.
That experience has never left me.
The silence.
The pressure.
The pain of watching a business owner break under the weight of uncertainty.
It was a harsh reminder of how unforgiving entrepreneurship can be when you lose sight of your cash and can’t manage it fast enough to recover.
This is why I built CashGPS.
The Pain Every Business Owner Knows Too Well
Let’s be real: most business owners are flying blind.
You're expected to juggle revenue, expenses, payroll, debt payments, credit cards, and taxes. While growing the business and maybe cleaning the bathroom too.
And if you're like millions of others, you’re still managing it all in a spreadsheet that’s outdated the moment it’s finished. Or worse you’re not tracking it at all.
The result? Late discoveries. Overdraft surprises. Missed payroll. Endless stress.
There’s a gap between accounting systems and the actual daily reality of managing money.
Accounting reports on the past.
CashGPS shows what’s happening right now, and what’s coming next.
That’s the operational layer.
That’s where the chaos lives.
That’s what’s killing most SMBs.
CashOps doesn’t compete with accounting. It sits beside it.
It’s an entirely different discipline built for day-to-day operations and forward-looking decisions. If you can’t answer those critical questions with confidence, it’s not your fault.
The tools weren’t built for you.
